The Wisdom Keepers

The Wisdom Keepers – graduates of the Wisdom Project, a VISION 2030 program and initiative of the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce – were recognized in March 2015 as a national leading model at the American Society on Aging (ASA) Conference in Chicago.

Now 100+ strong with over 2,000 hours of volunteer service, the VISION 2030 Wisdom Keepers were accepted by the ASA as a visionary program which communities across the country should replicate.

The ASA is the largest national aging conference in the country with over 3,000 in attendance from across the industry of aging and many hundreds of sessions going through a screening process to be accepted. Gainesville-Hall County Wisdom Keeper Representatives Kathy Amos (Executive Director Brenau Center for Lifetime Study), Larry Preiss (Wisdom Keeper Co-Chair), Robert Horne (VISION 2030 Committee and Wisdom Keeper) and Erika Walker (Wisdom Keeper) presented a session on how the Wisdom Keepers are emerging as a think tank “strengthening Greater Hall County through action and advocacy.”

The Wisdom Keepers are tapping into the skills/talents of their members who are former business professionals and community activists. Wisdom Keeper projects include developing and implementing an improvement plan to address national criteria for “successful aging” along with these community programs:

- Initiating the iTNLanier senior transportation program
- Developing the “Path to Wisdom” two-day seminar
- Support of the Lee Gilmer airport enhancement plan
- Salvation Army career educational classes
- Creating an art gallery docent program
- Forming a strategic plan for occupational therapy education

About THE WISDOM PROJECT
The Wisdom Project is a senior leadership program for community members age 55 and older to build greater understanding of Greater Hall County, enlist participants' skills to better understand our community, and tap into the wisdom of our residents. The Wisdom Project is a VISION 2030 initiative, developed and presented by the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce and Brenau University's Center for Lifetime Study. Through a hands-on service project and interaction with like-minded individuals from throughout the community, Wisdom Project participants experience a dynamic, multi-faceted view of Gainesville and Hall County, explore local issues and opportunities and engage with community leaders. Graduates of the program may serve on the Wisdom Keepers Council, an advisory group for subsequent programs and advocacy projects.
