Gainesville-Hall County: An Art Mecca

Leadership:  LeTrell Simpson, Con-Cen-Sus and Frank Norton Jr., The Norton Agency

Our Vision: There are unique public art districts across Gainesville-Hall County.  This includes Downtown Gainesville with performing and visual arts, Lake Lanier that offers a wide spectrum of  music, Chicopee Woods that offer outdoor art, and Gillsville/ Lula with their cultural arts, folk art, and pottery.  Gainesville-Hall County has a multitude of venues to support the performing arts including large venues like outdoor amphitheaters.  The Vision 2030 members hold a very strong commitment to build on the region's love of all forms of art.  In doing so, Hall County is generous with public art that is displayed in accessible and visually appealing areas across our community.

The Vision 2030 Public Art Committee strives to promote and provide access to the arts in Gainesville-Hall County. The committee is developing an Art Walk brochure and map showcasing over 28 pieces of public art already on display in Gainesville-Hall County. The next project is to install an art piece on the lawn of the Gainesville Civic Center. The committee,  in partnership with the City of Gainesville, has applied for the National Endowment of the Arts, Art Works, grant. The timeline of completion is funding dependent, however, a call for artists is in the works.

In order to plan and implement the most comprehensive Public Arts program in Gainesville-Hall County, members of the Vision 2030 Board of Directors and community leaders have taken a number of trips to learn from the creativity and innovation of other communities.  Some of these trips include Cary, NC, Greenville, SC and Suwanee, GA.
